Re: Puppy training

Its a good point Liz mentioned about training outside. A church hall is very different to a field with distractions - I managed to find training outside which although rather chilly had the added advantages of additional noises, birds and smells.

Re: Raw food book recommendation

Do you have a good independent pet shop? We have a horse/pet shop run by a vet nurse who is very pro raw feeding and is a mine of info and good ideas. We used natures diet mince as a starting point. they have whatever veg is cheap and in season mixed with whatever the pet shop has in their fridge. T...

Re: Paddy doesn't like his dog walker

Lulu and Woody won't go with certain people either. Could it be something daft like her scent/perfume?. Lulu refuses to be walked by my niece (20) who absolutely adores lulu - always brings her presents but it's quite embarrassing because Lulu just sits down and won't move and we have no idea why. P...

Re: what to do.

I really do feel for you. It is so difficult when our beloved pets become old and frail. I can't really give you any advice other than in your heart you will know when she's had enough. If she's eating well and seems happy in herself she may be ok for alittle while longer xxx

Re: Puppy eating his own poop!

I feed mine a raw diet. Some kind soul on here suggested adding some cooked corgettes to their food and it works for us.

I am sure wiser people will come along with other suggestions. .. Not sure if I'm making this up but I think pineapple works as well?

Re: Advice on crating and getting puppy to settle in please

I think it depends on your puppy. Lulu was hopeless at first - a real baby who would cry all night if left so I moved her crate upstairs next to my bed and put my fingers through the crate to sooth her every time she cried. It was hard work but I was determined I wanted her crate trained. Then I bou...

Re: Had a really good day at training today

That sounds really good fun. You must report back.. Our trainer does 2 types of searches, tracking with a long line or tracking harness/ off lead depending on dog and terrain and "find and speak". Jess, the collie charged off, found the lost man, stayed with him barking until his owner came. You rea...

Had a really good day at training today

Took Bella our puppy to training today. The trainer runs the search and rescue over the moors. They had just had a call that someone had got lost on the moors in the snow this morning. I expected them to cancel training and ask us to go home but we set off to the meeting point and were paired up wit...

Re: Recall

I have taken our lab puppy Bella to a new trainer who does all his training outside in his paddock and fields. Now it's pretty horrendous when it's sleeting and raining , like every week, but I have found it helpful to practice recall surrounded by other dogs, birds etc in a large field.

Re: Doodle comfort.

You have my sympathy. Although nothing as bad as you have experienced with your sons illness we have had a difficult 2 years with our son. Its so very difficult because no matter what you will always be their mother - even if on a bad day they wish you were not. I remember your original posts and th...

Re: Free the Wyre One!!!

Hi Wyre I'm Bella -Lulu and Woodys black lab puppy sister. I'm not much older than you and I can already open my crate. It's simples - you just nudge the bottom catch for about ten minutes until it loosens then you force your chubby puppy body out through the bottom of the door. Mine is so warped it...

Re: How did you train your doodle

No Bid not at all .. he's a lovely gentle man who adores dogs. He just doesn't agree with treating with food ALL the time .. He says a big fuss and a game of ball/ tuggie is just as important to a dog and is an excellent reward as an alternative to food. I used only ever used food treats with Lulu a...

Re: How did you train your doodle

Could have done with the metal spoon tip a couple of weeks ago Bid! The closed fist has now worked with Bella our lab puppy but I should have bought shares in Elastoplast :P We have gone to a different trainer with Bella rather than the complete chaos in the village hall that Lulu went to. He runs t...
