Ear trouble... anyone know what has happened to...

... Zymox Otic with hydrocortisone? We've been using it on and off for ages coz Woody seems prone to getting a slightly iffy ear (only ever on one side and usually when he's been swimming). it builds up over a period of days to loads of brown gunk and lots of ear-scratching & head shaking. After a f...

Re: My nose has changed colour..Oscar.

Woody's nose has changed colour too. His was definitely jet black until earlier this year and now its getting paler and paler... I was wondering whether to do anything, but he seems absolutely fine! It will be interesting to see whether it changes back again - I liked the blackberry too!

Re: No Swimming..

Great photos - Woody and Murphy are obviously brothers! That's exactly what Woody does when presented with a body of water. I love the 'flying entry' - have you noticed how they very rarely actually get their heads properly under even when they make a huge splash?! I particularly like the photo of M...

Re: Elvis has left the building...

I nearly choked on my breakfast cereal at Beeeerock's anchor picture ...    Yes, I could restrict him with a screw-thingy and a cable, but having just come back from a camping trip I've got my doubts! For three full days my (donkey-sized & very energetic) hound wove in and out o...

Elvis has left the building...

Or, more accurately, Woody has left the garden... Does anyone have any tips on how to stop your (otherwise very well behaved and socially acceptable) dog from disappearing into other people's gardens? I work from a shed in the bottom of the garden and its too stuffy to have the door shut at the mome...

Re: Brushes

I've got - or had - a shaggy / scruffy who sheds like nothing on earth (I say 'had' because I've recently shorn him like a sheep and it's great not having balls of hair all over the floor, and being able to stroke his velvety undercoat, and see his shape properly...! It may become his new look perma...

Re: Too darn hot...

Wow!! - 20 minutes with my (rubbish) clippers and he looks like a new dog!! I love it - you can actually see his shape now. Haven't tackled the legs, but his big hairy wolf coat has gone and he's all smooth underneath...! Not exactly velvety but quite nice to the touch. He was quite good about it to...

Re: Too darn hot...

Aha, so that's two votes for the shorter look! Thanks!! I might get the clippers out and have a go myself (surely to be followed by an emergency trip to the groomers when it all goes horribly wrong...!). He's never been to the groomers (never expected to want / need to take him, so I didn't bother w...

Too darn hot...

Woody seems to be getting incredibly hot in this weather, especially when he's racing about - does anyone else have any experience of clipping a scruffy doodle short? He's got long, slightly curly hair along his back, but then quite smooth, shortish hair on his flanks & underneath, and a great big l...

Re: Felix my special pussy cat

Sorry to hear you're facing some tough times. I've been there - my lovely cat Finn was with me 16 years, from my late student days till I was nearly 40. I did all of my "growing up" with him around - jobs, marriage, kids, house, all that stuff. He was an absolute terror, a typical burmese thug, and ...

Re: Phoebe has a poor sore paw

Sounds exactly like what Woody did a few weeks ago. Bounding through the woods at Box Hill, suddenly noticed blobs of blood in the leaves. Big gash on the side of his pad - so big there was actually a 2cm flap of skin & flesh. I can't imagine what can have cut it but it must have been man-made, can'...

Re: Vet charges (emergency!)

It obviously varies a lot - having Woody neutered cost £200 here by our local vets (a group of two or three local practices with equine / large animal specialists too). I know the op for females is much more involved so I dread to think how much it would have been with them! We too had a diabetic ca...

Re: Recall - About turn walk - anyone used this sort of met

Woody's recall was fine - mostly - until a couple of months ago when the hormones properly kicked in. He's been neutered now and is definitely becoming more responsive. However, I've always done the about-turn walk when he wasn't paying attention to where we were, and the "hiding behind trees" when ...

Re: Mum took me to the "hairdressers"

Haha! Woody has just been "tutored" and it has definitely made him smarter. Or rather, he's now using his brain to think with, rather than his testicles.

Interestingly, my OH is about to go for the snip, too. I'm hoping it will have the same effect on him!

OUCH!!! :!: :!: :!: :!:
That seems like a hell of a lot...???? Have they got the decimal point in the wrong place??? I'd expect £900, not £9000!
