Re: Doodle weight

Ursa is probably about 20" and was 20kg last week. She's a very poodly shape, with long legs, quite a deep chest but a narrow pelvis and shoulders. I think she'll probably fill out a little bit, but I'm not sure how much taller she'll get - her legs are already very long compared to her body!

Re: Scooby and traffic

I think that makes a lot of sense. Ursa was frightened of cars coming too close when she was small; now she's a bit bigger she still does react to loud or unexpected traffic noise. I live in a town but not near any busy roads, so it can be a few days before she's exposed to noisy vehicles. When she ...

Re: To trim or not to trim now that is the question?

Ursa has been very obviously suffering in the heat, to the point where I wondered if we were going to get home from the park the other day when it was really hot in the afternoon. I've booked her in for a clip on Wednesday - I'll ask the groomer not to go too radical but I'm sure it will give her so...

Re: Our first labradoodle

One of my B&B guests looked through the french windows into the garden a couple of weeks ago. At that precise moment there were: the constituent parts of two different slippers, a couple of nylabones, the torn up cardboard wrapper of an Amazon book delivery, a pair of brightly coloured bikini bottom...

Re: Vet charges (emergency!)

We have an independent vet in Lewes - there's a dedicated small animal practice in the town and I know they have an equine and farm animal practice as well. The nurses are lovely and really do know what they're talking about (not always the case, in my experience) and really do care about the animal...

Re: which is best for dogs

Ursa's on a mixture of wet trays (Nature's Diet for puppies) and Simpson premium puppy kibble (80/20, no grains). She wolfs it all down - she used to take a while to eat the kibble but I've started wetting it and also mixing in meat and fish skins for a little variety. She's growing well and seems f...

Re: Bullied!

Ursa is getting wiser, and much more willing to assess the situation before plunging in (as she used to). I'm lucky that most of the dogs hereabouts are not aggressive and the worst that happens is she'll get snapped at. Yesterday we ran into Frank, who is an adorable Labrador/collie cross just comi...

Re: Insurance renewal for Beamish

I was paying Petplan a whopping £42 per month for one seven year old cat who had never made a claim. I thought initially that it must be a mistake, but they assured me it was all correct. This was in spite of moving out of central London and down to Sussex. In fact the premiums were twice what my ho...

Re: What's a good quality food at a reasonable cost.

I feed raw food, but since we now have the kitchen food waste recycling bin it seems Beamish has been getting his own supplements! I only discovered this today, when Pete pointed out that he has been snaffling some old chilli that Pete had put in the bin - I await the results with interest! Oh ooop...

Re: Woody neutered tomorrow...

Ah yes, the lead walks. Ursa simply skidded about in the house until I judged that it was safer to let her doodle dash in the garden. Short of tying their legs together I'm not at all sure how you'd stop them! She healed completely brilliantly and I'd given up on the lead walks by the third day, at ...

Re: Birthday Girl

No, but she did visit her friend Isabel for a bath last week which has relaxed the curls a bit. She's an F1B, so 75% poodle, and I've been promised that her coat will probably be curly but not very long and shaggy. It's quite wiry on the spine but silky soft on her flanks and head. She's not sheddin...

Birthday Girl

She's six months old today! I think it's also Sam Dunn's 6th month birthday, so here's a wet slobber from Ursa.

Re: She did it again!

Hah! That's a very familiar scenario, Anne. It's also why I think that the pet gate might now be a permanent feature of my house, since it means that one hyper doodle can be banished to doing nothing more annoying than wagging her tail on t'other side in the kitchen. For me it's not just deliveries ...

Re: A completely different dog atm

Brilliant! That's the same brand as I got from Amazon for Ursa, and I had the same experience - like magic, just as you say. She can't reach the harness itself to chew, but does chew the tapes which come through the locking mechanism. She's never managed to wriggle out of it, as long as the button's...
