A little update on Monty

So, it's been 8 weeks since Monty joined us. He's settled in really well. He must be the nosiest dog in the world, though, as everything that comes through the front door has to be inspected. No shopping bag or parcel is safe from his giant, wet nose. He's become a firm friend of Indie, my 6 year ol...

Re: What Harness ???

I got Monty a Perfect Fit harness. It's fleece in the inside and comes in a range of colours (I went for fluorescent yellow). Monty has a hair coat so I don't know about the fleece one. He loves his harness (and will lick it when he sees it, weirdly). The perfect fit has a front D ring, to help with...

Re: A Question for New Older Dogs Owners Please

She could take her into the garden and play with her. Also, and this is a bit yucky but might work: collect some poo from one of her walks and place it in the garden. She, hopefully, will smell it and realise that she can "go" there. I understand why she's not wanting to soil her area (if she was ke...

Re: Pigs Trotters....

You can get them from various places, including Waitrose. If you are struggling to find them locally, you can buy them on-line.

Re: A quick hello

BTW, I adopted Monty from the Dogs Trust and I can't say enough good things about them. They also evaluate the dogs and have a behaviourist on site. My experience of adopting has been wonderful. Although Monty's a bit more complicated, it's been lovely to have a more mature dog where we haven't had ...

Re: A quick hello

Hi Gareth, I recently adopted a labradoodle too, after doing a lot of research. The Doodle Trust rehomes labradoodles (and other poodle crosses). They are a very passionate group (come and see them on FB, "Doodle Trust Friends") and will provide help and support when needed. The Doodle Trust (http:/...

BUMP.

Just a reminder that Monty (formerly Moss) will be appearing on Phil Spencer: Secret Agent with his previous family at 1.40pm today (Channel 4). It should be on 4OD at some point in the near future (Series 4, Episode 4).

Indie's always had (and excuse my Glaswegian) "wee man syndrome". Monty's now his bodyguard :D

Re: Training a deaf dog not to bark

I called the Vet School in Glasgow (they do BAER testing) and they said that they'd have to sedate to do the test, which I'm not keen on.

Re: Training a deaf dog not to bark

Thanks, Nicky. My other dogs are due their boosters soon so when I'm at my vet, I'll ask about BAER. I think we have a pretty good idea about what he can hear, just from watching how he responds to noises around the house but it would be great to get something we could use to get his attention when ...

Re: Harness rubbing fur off back

What type of harness is it? We have a fleece lined one, which might be better in this case.

Also, you could try getting a thin dog coat and putting the harness on top of it.

Re: Doggy Detective Work - my dog is famous but he never sai

They say that the big, black dogs are the ones who wait longest to be rehomed, which is a shame.

I think some people find it easier to terrify their children into not touching dogs (like stranger danger) rather than teach them the proper way to approach and ask to touch a dog.

Re: Training a deaf dog not to bark

We've tested him with all sorts of whistles (and played high to low frequency sounds right next to him) but he doesn't hear any of them, nor the squeakers in the toys. He's very clever, though, and will come and see what's up if I turn the light off and on (this only works at night, though!). Usuall...

Re: Dog allowed in bed?

One of my Lhasas sleeps in our bed. Monty is a bit too big to fit but we all have cuddles in the morning before we get up.

Re: Training a deaf dog not to bark

You'll probably laugh but the experience of having a large dog is a bit strange. Monty is around three times the size of Zara. The Lhasas walk under him all the time and sometimes I'm sure Zara thinks he's furniture. When he wants to cuddle, he crushes us a little. When we are walking or in the park...
