Re: my poor girl

My sympathies are with you. We had to go through the same pain with our late Heinz 57 - Jimmy - back in July. The day Jimmy had 'the injection' was horrible & will stick in my mind (& that of my wife) forever. But, amazingly, life goes on & little more than a month after Jimmy died our beautiful doo...

Re: Photobucket

Which leads to the question, admins (sorry to hijack your thread, Debby), is there not a simpler way to post doodle photos to this forum, rather than the long-winded way described in the sticky - with the usual proviso found on just about every forum that the admins or moderators have the right to r...

Doodle Straining To Get At Traffic

Well, sooty is 4 1/2 months old now &, for the most part, is training well. Sure she can be a bit bitey or cloth-eared when the mood takes, but that isn't too often. We do, however, have one massive worry. Whenever a car drives past her (well about 90% of the time) Sooty will strain on her lead to g...

Re: New Doodle Owner

porteri, as I said in an earlier post on this thread we are a few weeks ahead of you. I'll let others answer some of the behavioural points, but as regards to weight we collected Sooty when she was 9 weeks & 1 day. At 9 weeks 2 days we had her in the vets for first injections & weighing - she weighe...

Re: Goodbye Peanut: The nicest peson I ever met

Well this cynical 62 year old was in tears. It reminded me too much of the last few days of Jimmy, our Heinz 57 who lost his life in July. So grateful that Sooty came into our lives - even when her youthful enthusiasm gets the better of her.

Re: Puppy Socialization Classes - A Disaster!

Thanks to everybody who has contributed to this thread. Here are a few updates:- 1. Despite the Terms & Conditions saying otherwise, we got a full refund from the owners of the classes - this followed an email from my wife & a brief telephone conversation with the owner. Although we are pleased to h...

Re: Afraid Of The Rain

"Do unto others as you would do to yourself"      PS I can laugh lulu doesn't care either way - rain or not I sure did. :D Stood out in the rain, whilst wearing a pair of shorts & trying to 'balance' an umbrel...

Re: Afraid Of The Rain

Oh, you lucky people, whose doodles love the rain. Sooty was so adamant that she wouldn't go out in the early morning monsoon that she soiled one of her downstairs rugs (first time in about two weeks, so forgivable - just), however she did go out a couple of times later in varying degrees of drizzle.

Afraid Of The Rain

Anybody else (particularly among the puppy owners) got a doodle who hates the rain & who will refuse to go out in it, even for a toilet break?

I do wish that ours would realise that rain is an occupational hazard living in the Manchester area. 8)

But, on a serious note, is it just a 'puppy thing'?

Re: New Doodle Owner

Congratulations. As one who is just a few weeks ahead of you as a new doodle owner can I suggest that you have just signed up to:- The new greatest love of your life. Early morning canine alarm calls - the first time your new doodle gives you a full night of sleep (or even close to) will be as big a...

Re: Puppy Socialization Classes - A Disaster!

Thanks for all of your replies. I'll try to respond to some of the main points raised. It would seem that 'clicker, but no verbal command' to sit works as follows. Hold a treat just above the dog's snout & start moving the hand downwards - the dog will then move into the sit position to earn the tre...

Puppy Socialization Classes - A Disaster!

So Sooty was booked into the first of her puppy socialization classes yesterday evening & it didn't go well. The classes are run on a rolling basis so that on any given week there are some new dogs (two of us last night) & some dogs who have been going for a few weeks. The evening was a disaster we ...

Re: A Rant About Other Dogs & Their Owners

A couple of thoughts. Firstly, I'm not sure if there was a problem with my computer or the forum yesterday afternoon or evening as I didn't receive notification of three of the replies - hence I've only just picked up on them. Secondly, I must admit that I hadn't thought that by picking Sooty up I'm...

Re: A Rant About Other Dogs & Their Owners

Thanks for your comment Sandy. I forgot to add in my original post that Alsatian owner came up with the other classic 'defence' (usually applied to dogs that are actually just the opposite) 'He's OK, he wouldn't harm another dog.' Well sorry, I'm not prepared to take a chance when the size differenc...
