Re: Hi Everyone :)

What Sam's mum said - Sam and my Ursa are exactly the same age (to the day!) so it's been interesting tracking their little triumphs. I bought loads of puppy pads before she came home, and then used maybe a dozen just in the crate in the very early days. That was because the crate was huge and she w...

Re: Sam sleeps through!!

Yay!!! Go Sam! What a relief for you all - it was probably just habit, and changing location has reset him (as it were!)

I love the pictures too: in some he looks nearly full grown, while in others he's obviously still a puppy.

Re: Walking to heel ............or not!

The trainer/behaviourist I have consulted also trains assistance dogs, and she's wonderful with Ursa. We did the Bronze training very early - she was only 13 weeks old when we started. She passed but it was by the skin of our teeth! I think it was worth doing because she does have the basics, and ev...

Re: Guess the harness!!

I invested all of £8 in this non-pull harness and it has transformed Ursa. It sounds as if it might work on the same principle as the one you describe, and at £8 worth a punt maybe?

Re: What do you feed your doodle?

My girl is on Nature's Diet puppy trays, Wainwrights if I happen to pass a Pets at Home and as a treat (because it's EXPENSIVE!) Nature's Menu pouches, supplemented with Simpson's 80/20 premium puppy kibble. She gets a tray/pouch over two meals and a couple of scoops of kibble. She doesn't wolf down...

Re: Spayed booked...help!!

Ursa had her op on Monday. She was bouncing around by Tuesday lunchtime (to my considerable dismay, it has to be said) and doodle dashing around the garden that evening. She didn't show any interest in the wound so I could leave the buster collar off safely and by Wednesday she was clearly a bit sti...

Re: Spayed booked...help!!

Ursa is five days post spay now, and seems bright as a button. When I booked the op I asked the vet the questions about hormone imbalances and growth regulation, and he said, quite categorically, that there was no problem. It is clearly the practice's preferred option, since the young vet I saw when...

Re: Spayed booked...help!!

Ursa was spayed on Monday. She was a bit dazed for a few hours, but by Tuesday afternoon she was wanting to run around as if nothing whatsoever had happened! Yesterday I took her out for two longish walks in town, staying away from our usual off-lead haunts, and working on the basis that she'd be st...

Re: Shocking recall

As you can see, I have this to look forward to... However there is one thing I would say, and that is that I have discovered that Ursa responds really strongly to me whistling softly. Not a metal whistle, but just three quick soft whistles. It seems to be considerably more effective than me calling ...

Re: "DO NOT ASK - AS THE ANSWER MAY OFFEND"

But typically our conversations go a bit like this.... Ooh hello, Is that Buster? Alfie? Woody? No its Jasper. As you can see, there are a few dog friendly pubs that are circulated by mysterious dood owners!! We've met Woody once and Buster once and they are the double of Jasper - to be fair!...

Re: "DO NOT ASK - AS THE ANSWER MAY OFFEND"

Mostly people just say "what a lovely dog" round here. Several also say "she's a labradoodle, isn't she?" or ask and then say, approvingly, "I thought so!" But then Lewes is full of poodle cross breeds, particularly the various spaniel crosses. Ursa is, of course, the most outstandingly beautiful, c...

Re: How should I introduce my daughters Puppy?

I haven't, or not at least to a relative's dog. However I have had recent experience of introducing Ursa to an older dog belonging to my neighbour, called Hebe. Hebe is a sweet chocolate lab who I often take out for walks and sometimes have had to stay with me here when her own family is away, so we...

I call the neighbour at no 9 much worse than that...

She's out for the count at the moment. Poor little thing: I do feel very mean even though I know it's for the best.

Re: she is so clever

My little Ursa has just come back from the vets after being spayed, so I've got several days when she'll be feeling fine but not allowed to do any racing around. I have a routine for my keys and rarely lose them, but we'll need something to do to tire her out while she's not allowed doodle dashes an...

Black doods are the best. (We passed our bronze test. Ursa wasn't terribly impressed)
