Re: Sam still wakes at 4 or 5 am for a toilet stop - bad hab

Oh no, poor you! Ursa stopped waking me in the early hours about three or four weeks ago. The key was not responding to the barking and whining, and I could only do that when I didn't have guests because, as you say, she'd have woken everyone. I chose a period of four days when there were no booking...

Re: Anyone used a dog behaviourist?

I have, yes. She was an instant hit with Ursa who was (literally) eating out of her hand immediately. (The cat simply fished bits of chicken out of her pocket while she wasn't looking) Ursa is my first dog and I was anxious to get the early training right - and actually to understand better what is ...

Re: Picked our pup

Hello Milo! Oh he's so cute, why do puppies always look so serious?? But now I'd advise getting a puppy used to being brushed, being left on his own (for a short time) and, most definitely, having his botty touched. (This last as I've spent some time this evening trying to get compacted pooh ...

Re: Proud Owner Alert

Well done to you and Ursa. I'm very impressed that she leaves your guests alone whilst they're having breakfast. I think they'd have to put up with Bonny's nose hovering next to their bacon and eggs if it was us  ursa's doing very well because she's still quite a baby- and very cute :D I'm su...

Re: Proud Owner Alert

Congratulations to both of you (you do know that the classes are really for us humans, don't you  ) I'm always so jealous of people who can post piccies of their 'wards' wearing their rosette... couldn't put Ianto's anywhere near him - they'd be in tatters immediately! Anne & Ianto x It...

Re: Proud Owner Alert

Oh bless her - very well done to both of you On ward and upward to silver next ? Thanks! Probably not: although we certainly won't stop training. To be a happy dog she needs to have good recall, not chase bikes or runner, be sensible in the vicinity of roads and animals in fields, and we're still w...

Proud Owner Alert

I am amazed. We passed our Bronze obedience exam, in spite of Ursa treating "heel" as though it was an instruction to bark, sit, jump, nip, run and anything else you can think of. She did a perfect "down stay" for one minute though, which probably swayed the judge... http://i233.photobucket.com/albu...

Re: Newbie advice please

Can I second Bid's recommendation to find a groomer now? Ursa went for her first wash and brush up when she was about 15 weeks old. I had tried bathing her at home but she was frightened of the hair dryer, so I hoped that someone who actually knew what they were doing would reassure her. So it prove...

Re: worried about nell

Ursa was limping a few weeks ago - nothing major, but she was clearly a little uncomfortable. I couldn't see anything (paws and pads nice and clear and no wounds anywhere) and she wasn't sore to the touch either. I mentioned it to the dog trainer, who said that around half the dogs she's been workin...

Re: Here's one I made earlier...

She did, Swardle. That's a favourite little spot - an open field in the middle of town well away from traffic and other distractions, so lots of dog owners come hoping to find other friendly dogs to play with. I hadn't met Freddie before, but I can see the same body and head shape in Ursa. I don't t...

Here's one I made earlier...

I took Ursa's special friend Hebe on our walk this afternoon - she's a good influence and very sensible. (That's the only reason I got them sitting together as instructed - Ursa copies what she does!) And then we were joined by Frederika the Doodle. She's an F1b, just like Ursa, and is simply stunni...

Re: Where oh where did half the uncooked liver cake go Poppy

Returning briefly to this stealing business, Ursa tried to steal my marmite toast which I'd left to one side as I bid farewell to some guests. Her mistake was to bark at it. I'm not sure what exactly she thought barking would do, but I imagine she thought it would leap off the plate in fright and in...

Re: Bonny in deep disgrace!

My sweet Ursa is actually pretty calm most of the time, although I'm not sure the cat would agree She did do a splendid doodle dash in the middle of a field out on the downs today, which made my companions roar with laughter, not least because a proper doodle dash involves racing past people at top ...
