How often??

I have to admit I'm a bit of a clean freak and the continual hoovering doesn't really bother me (Bobby is a grade A moulter!!).

BUT...... the doggy smell does! How often do your doodles get a bath and with what? Could I bath him with baby shampoo to stop the oils being stripped?

Bobby is fed raw with salmon oil for his skin / fur and is the picture of health if sometimes a bit whiffy

Thanks

Clair

They go to the groomers for a bath every 2 months. In between they generally get a wash with doggy shampoo from P@H just on the areas that are dirty as and when needed... generally if they have been in some manky water or rolled in something yukky. Sometimes thats several times a week and sometimes once in a fortnight.

I love the normal doggy smell but not the other smells

It's the other smells I don't like!!

And Bobby is fed salmon oil with his raw food so kisses are a bit fishy!!

Interested in any answers to this as I have been wondering myself!
I've never washed Monty (4 months) and I'm really not a clean-freak but even I have to admit he is a bit smelly!!
After a long play with a particularly drooly dog yesterday he really stinks of dried-in dog spit - yuck
He's already so big I'm not sure how to manage it to be honest. Also I've heard it's bad for their coats.
Wonder how often is "normal" to bath a dog? Maybe it's best to get them used to it while still young?
Sorry! Not much help!

Dogs don't really NEED baths unless they're dirty, there's natural oils in their coats and if you bath them too often it can stop these oils taking any effect. I'd say it's fine to bath a dog once a week but I wouldn't really see a need in doing it more often...unless they do something silly like roll in poo!

Not a bather. I have hot and cold outside water taps with a cheap rubber shower attached so if he comes back muddy I just hose the mud off.

My OH has not been able to get into the shower or bath for over two months. He does not smell and his skin is much healthier. Mind you he is dying for a shower. I really don't think any of us do ourselves any favours by this constant showering but it does feel good. I just don't think our animals feel the same about it. I use supermarket shampoo and conditioner on dogs and horses.

Marley is probably showered around once a fortnight, mainly because he has allergies to dustmites and this helps relieve the itching. We used Dermacton soap. His coat is lovely and soft. I do a wash in the shower with him and his groomer does one in the bath - think she might use conditioner on him but I don't. His coat is still changing but it is very soft.

I would have thought that once a week was quite often for a dog bath :? Poppy only ever gets bathed if she has rolled in something, which is never, or if she has accidentally got into some mud, which was once. Other than that it's when she goes to the groomer.

Daisy is easy care and most mud will drop off her but if she's got some really claggy mud then she has a bath. If she rolls in something then she gets a spot wash to get rid of it. A full bath is a very rare thing, although she does have to get showerd off after swimming in the hydro pool which is a shame imo, and her coat is a lot coarser since that has been going on.

The thing is - neither of my girls smell (and I know that because people have commented on how my house doesnt' smell doggy - I know you can get immune to your own dog smells!). Is that to do with the type of coats they have and the not shedding perhaps?

I dont bath Florence at all now myself, just a wash with the hose if her feet are particularly muddy or she's rolled in something.
She is so heavy, I struggle lifting her into the bath and she's too big for my shower enclosure! Also, if I have put her in the bath, my back is breaking by the time I have finished, so i've given up and she just goes to the groomers every 4-5 weeks :D

Plus, like Bid, my house doesn't smell doggy (so people have commented) and they are surprised how Florence doesn't even smell doggy  I'm sure she is one tho!!
