Day 61 - eagerly awaiting Amber's little gems.

Post by AMBERDOODLE » 31 Oct 2012, 11:05

So excited and nervous at the same time. Time getting close to finally meeting Amber's puppies. Mind is now bulging with information having read so much information on whelping and talking to a few breeders. Any extra advice welcome.
Think I've bought too much for whelping kit, but better to have everything just incase.

:D Well you are going to be ver very busy. :D I have just said goodbye to my 11th Puppy born 3rd Sep and kept 1.. Good food for mum I used Royal canin mother and baby!! buik buy for Zoo plus. I also ordered royal canin mousse starter in tins and got through 6 1and a half kg tubs of Beaphar Lactol puppy milk. A must for mum after giving birth. I then used it for puppies with weaning from 2and a half weeks. Huggies dry mats were a must along wit cat litter!! :D Shall I go on!! We did round the clock 24hour feeding for the first two weeks and didn't leave mum alone. You need to be able to rotate large litters and keep an eye on smaller puppies. A very hard time. Mum showed signs of labour two days before. Expect 12hrs for first stage and lots of digging of her bed!! Loads of towels . Oh and Pampers wet wipes to help wipe/stimulate bowel movement!! Help mum where you can. Feed mum often, even through the night!! I could write a book!! Good luck. if you need any more advice just ask. Puppies need to suckle as soon as clean and make room for the next birth!! My came out almost two at a time!!

Thanks Helen for advice. Very much appreciated. I found a whole pack of pampers bed mats and change pads in airing cupboard from when my kids were little. They have come in very useful today.

So sad to see your last pup go to new home i'm sure. Bet it helps keeping one though

Just given Amber some sardines whilst her dog gruel mixture is cooling down.

Amber seems to be coping very well. Have my sleeping bag ready for the sofa again. Glad it's still the school holidays at the moment and haven't got to rush out anywhere in the morning. :D

Aaaw, what a lovely proud-looking mum! Aren't their ears funny, without hair! i also like the diddy, darker one - what an unusual colour!
