PHOTOBUCKET HOLDING PEOPLES PHOTOS RANSOME

Post by linny » 01 Jul 2017, 17:42

My photo postings on here have been removed by Photo bucket and they are demanding $399 . When I signed up with them it was a free service to upload my photos to their storage facility, to be able to edit my photos and with option to buy their commercial offers.
How come that they now see fit to hold all my photo's ransom...I can't even log into my library
They say it's because I have been 3rd party hosting....
What gives them the right to remove all such postings across the web when there was no stipulation when I signed up to say that our photo's could not be shared....they even gave us share facilities
Surely this is theft?????
Is everyone else experiencing the same?

Mine seems to be ok.
Are you sure Linny it is a genuine message from Photobucket and not some scam trying to get payment details??? :(

You are right Linny and i suspect they have /shall lose millions of users and the ad revenue that goes with it.

Don't know why some acvounts gone before others but seems genuine change of Terms across the board.
So shift your photos if you've no back up and can still get in..

Ps:Linny on the photos above see if you can open the photo in a new tab. Half read something about that

Thought Photobucket was there to allow folk to post them on other websites and they even give you the codes to do it under photos. To turn around and say you've got to pay because you've been doing what it was for is very cheeky. Just checked mine via the iPhone app and i could still get in but to be honest the only photos in there are there just to post on a site like this and i have them backed up elsewhere.

For anyone struggling look at the likes of Google Photo, Microsoft OneDrive, Dropbox, Box and probably a few others all of which are cloud storage sites that you can upload stuff to. All of them will have apps for various smartphones and tablets along with being accessible via the web from a PC. I use a combination of them for various things including OneDrive for all the photos from my phone etc which means i wont lose them should my phone go belly up but also means i can access them from my phone, iPad or any web connected PC should i need to.

Thanks for the heads-up, Linny - and for the info, jonb... I don't use Photobucket much as I struggle even with that amount of technology, but will go have a look...

Well, my photos are still there - plastered over with adverts - but I can't copy and paste it here as I used to be able to do...
