Hi All,
Thanks for letting me join the forum.
So we are looking into getting a labradoodle. Now my partners son is 7 and he is allergic to dogs, I know labradoodles are hypoallergenic, however before anyone says I also know not all dogs are suitable for people who are alergic to them.

My question is how do you all think the best way forward is to test if he is allergic to labradoodles? Does anyone know of any breeders around the staffordshire area who wouldnt mind if we visited for an hour or two to see if anything flares up.

Does anyone know if tests can be performed to see what he is allergic to?

Any responses would be appreciated.

THanks
Sarah

Hi Sarah,
With dog allergy it is usually the dander and saliva that cause a reaction not the coat itself so I'm really not sure how you could test your partners son.
As with any allergy it's usually a Doctor who performs sensitivity tests and it's usully done in a controlled environment (in case any reaction is severe.)
Doodles also come with many different coat types and many DO shed.

Hi Sarah
Welcome to the forum.
Perhaps if you post on the M.E.S.S board for any meetings in your area you could attend a walk and see how things pan out?
Good luck :)

Whereabouts in Staffordshire are you?

I am local to Staffordshire and know a breeder, who has a few different types of doodles.

Hmmm - I think we should get rid of the hypoallergenic rumour - they aren't really!

Your best bet would be a poodle rather than a doodle (if you don't shave the nose no-one would be any the wiser!). Failing that, find a breeder you are happy with, and then spend time with both parents to see if your partners son has any reaction, but even then there are no guarantees that the puppies will have the same coats. It is all a bit of a gamble tbh. The Australian labradoodles are a lot more predictable, but considerably more expensive.
