I'm so disappointed!! Wispa was so good about not doing her business in the house for the past week, and earlier today she managed to hold it the whole morning while I was at work (my sister in law stopped in to take her out midway through the morning), and Wispa didn't go inside at all! I was so proud of her, as it was the first time she'd been left for that length of time. Then this afternoon/evening, DESPITE our regular trips outside, she has managed to wee THREE TIMES inside!! All in different places, and all very small, like she purposely peed just a little and saved the rest for another spot! I barely took my eyes off her, but every time I did, there she went again! I felt like I was following her around with the kitchen towel and cleaner Just when I had decided to give up on trying to crate her when I had to tidy up/do laundry/cook, I guess I'll have to go back and try to crate her and live through her non-stop barking. I'm so upset, I feel like a failure of a pet-owner. Is this my fault? Is she mad at me for leaving her alone this morning? Or do you think she really just had to wee THAT often tonight?

Don't be disappointed and so hard on yourself. Archie is fully house trained now (he's eight months) and he was house trained really quickly, but we went to training this morning and he had a wee in the class. I was mortified and very apologetic, but it was because he had the scent of another dog and was excited to be there, racing around. How old is she? She will still have the odd accident. All puppies do it and she probably did need to wee. She'll probably be totally different tomorrow but remember, you and Wispa are not failures. She is just being a puppy and you're just being a puppy mum Kirsty and Archie

dont fret and im sure your not doing anything wrong how old is Wispa now ? she's still really young isnt she ?? although she did really well to hold it in for the morning, she is still a baby and will still make mistakes. just carry on with cleaning it up and spray it with a odour eating spray. if you catch her in the act i would Clap my hands and shout NO or AH AH ! when i did this with Luna she would stop weeing so i could lift her outside and she would finish it outside and then i would give her lots of praise. I remember i often thought "oh luna is house trained now cos she hasnt had an accident for a few days" and then she would randomly wee on the carpet !!! it will get better in time

Maybe she just drank a lot more water that usual this afternoon. I know she's not house trained yet, as she's doesn't indicate in any way that she needs to go out, so I just take her out every 1-2 hours depending on how much she's napping, and for the last week it was working a treat. Usually she'll wee almost immediately upon hitting the grass in the garden. Did the same this afternoon, but she still went inside, too. I have a question about the spray you mentioned, though. I'm lucky in that we have no carpets, so it's all (fake) wood and tile, so I've been cleaning up after her with Flash with Febreeze. It's not special odour-eating spray, does this actually matter? I can't smell anything, but can Wispa?

hi well i believe she will be able to smell it, even though you can't. some people use biological powder but i used this http://www.vetuk.co.uk/veterinary-suppl ... 5ml-p-4604she is doing really well (so are you ) just keep giving the praise for doing it in the right place but give no response if you find a puddle. it did take a while for luna to indicate that she wanted to go out good luck

I think puppies have times of day when they just have more toilet breaks. Jessie used to wee much more in the evening because everyone was home and it was more exciting for her, and occasionally she would forget to go outside, or we would just miss her request to go out because we were busy doing tea etc,
Are you recognising her signs to go out? She may be doing little wees because she is just letting a bit go indoors because she would rather let it all out in the garden.
Don't beat yourself up over it, we have all been there.

wispa might have been asleep the whole morning which is how she managed to hold on?
Until about 2 weeks ago Max (now 14 weeks) was weeing very frequently, including several times during he night - fortunately I caught most of them. I was beginning to think he might have a UTI. However suddenly something seemed to click with him - and it did seem sudden - and he was suddenly holding all night, and only going about once or twice between sleeps and play. The last 2 days he's come to me and made a little noise to indicate he needed to go outside - and then patiently waited while I found my shoes! I didn't think I'd be typing this a couple of weeks ago - so don't loose heart, they all mature in their own timing, she'll get it when she's ready. They are babies really when they are so young.

I remember that "I can't do this" feeling so well - and usually you are sooo tired that it all seems impossible! With housetraining you think they are never going to get there, and then all of a sudden you realise they haven't had a wee or poo indoors for ages! Stick at it - it won't be for long !

I know every time I have thought "Wow, we've cracked it!" He's had an accident His last one was 1 or 2 weeks ago so I'm *confident* he's got more accidents to come... Because if I think he's all perfect he's just going to embarrass me with a giant poo on someone's carpet

Your doing great , don't be hard on yourself, it takes some dogs longer to learn than others. Dawn is right when she says try using a spray that removes the odour, as dogs have great noses & she will be able to smell it. Good Luck, we've all had those "oh no, this is a huge step back" moments, it will get better.

I don't know if it's true but we were told to wipe the area clean using water & vinegar as most cleaning sprays etc have...uhmmm something ? that actually makes the wee smell stronger to a dog. Oh I remember the days... we even had a door mat we had to throw out as once he had messed it it was impossible to get the smell out and Moomin kept using it as a 'litter tray'. He was NOT popular! Sounds like your doing a good job.
Odd thing to suggest but something that helped me and my dog was training a wee on command. Every time she sees outside say "go wee wees" then when she's done give her a treat and lots of fuss. If she wees in the house and you catch her In the act say "ah ah" or "no" or "oi!" whatever your sound for negative behaviour is and immediately take her outside and give the command "go wee wees" don't keep repeating the command, instead wait patiently, then if she performs say the command again "go wee wees" give her a treat and lots of fuss and praise. This way they learn what they are actually doing and where you actually want them to go. It's also handy for if you are going to a friends house and you want to make sure she has been a wee before you go in, or going in the car. I use "go toilet" for a poo to. Your pup may have occasional accidents until 6 months old, but don't get mad with her, the last thing you wanna do is make her think you have a problem with her weeing as then she may become less likely to perform when you are around (ie when you take her out for a toilet break) cos she won't know what to expect from you, and start to wee in the house when you are not around.
A good book, if your interested is "think dog" by John fisher fabulous insight into how a dog thinks and interprets us humans!

Ours are "get clean," and "get busy." She's pretty good, and the only times she's ever wee'd in the house under my watch were that one night, and I never caught her in the act! No accidents since! *knock on wood*
