Taking a new puppy outside for toilet training.

Hello all,
We pickup our new doodle (Woody) this weekend and would like to query you all about taking him outside for potty training. As he is only 8 weeks and had a single jab, we’ve been advised he can’t go outside yet. As there are foxes and cats in the area who often walk through our garden, I thought this was a sensible idea and planned to keep him in the house until the second jab.
However, everything I’m reading about potty training suggests we take him outside when he needs to go. His area will be at the end of the garden where the kids don’t go, so he’ll need to walk the length of the garden.
Can he go outside in this limited area without other dogs, or should we initiall ‘house train’ him and change his behaviour later.
In about three months, due to work commitments, we need him to manage for a few hours on his own in the house whilst we’re out during school term time.
Thank you for the advice!
Ian
