Hi
My family (hubby and two children aged 5 and 10) recently looked after our friends adorable 2 year old Cockerpoo for a week while they were on holiday and he has left quite a mark....!
We are drawn to the labradoodle, hence Ive joinged this forum to learn more in order to make all the right important decisions.
Im at the very beginning of this journey so I would appreciate all your advice as I hope that one day I can post a very proud picture of our new edition... :D
Where do I start :?: :!:
:)

The main thing is to ensure that the parents have been health tested so you know that the breeder is serious & not just a "hobby" breeder, that way you have a far better chance of getting a healthy dog.
Decide what size you want; whether you want a first generation or an australian.
Don;t be fooled by anyone telling you that they are allergy free - it's not true!!! Have a look at the Labradoodle Trust's site to read all about labradoodles.
Good luck!

Yes agree with what Pauline has said, the most important thing is to make sure the parents have been thoroughly health checked to ensure a healthy puppy, if it's a puppy u are after. The UK doodle club might also be helpful as the have information on there about health checks that should be carried out, reputable breeders etc and u can ask away. U can join the forum on there and there are some of the top breeders of Labradoodles on there and will happily answer your questions too. Main thing is to take your time so u get the puppy/dog that will suit your family best. Lots of luck xxxx

hi ! good luck in your search :) when i first started looking into labradoodles i wrote out a list of questions to ask breeders and had decided what type of coat i wanted (i wanted a fleecey type with the chance of low shedding)
I did a 10 hour round trip to get Luna because i found it hard to find a breeder that i trusted. she was worth the wait and the drive
really do your research and ask lots of questions.
plus be prepared for the unexpected when it comes to the height and coat texture of your dog :)

Labradoodles are just fab- do lots of research about coats, height, parentage and health checks.
Try and get your head around the generational codes (F1 , F1b, F2 etc) and what these may mean to you.
I have two f1 (first cross between labrador and poodle) and both girls are so different (pixie) is scruffy and well behaved and Jazz who is a mini doodle who is fleecy, beautiful and a little tear away at times.
I like that fact that you collect a little bundle of fluff and don't really know what adult dog you will end up with.
I understand that australian doodles and multi-generational lines are a bit more predictable but I like the joy of seeing them develope and change before you very eyes.
Have fun looking
Kathy

Agree - check the parents have had all available health tests, and the are reared in a home. Aussie's are more likely to be allergy-free as they are virtually always very low to non-shedding (except when they lose their puppy coat at 8 months, as every doodle does). Mine sheds not at all and has no dander - BUT this means nothing if you are allergic to dog saliva and not fur or dander.

I wish I could start looking for another, such fun!

Thank you do much for your advice. I'm reading tonns and trying to absorb as much as I can!!! The labradoodle trust was an excellent source of info, thanks for that reference.

I note your point regarding generations etc and the joy of discovering your labradoodle as they grow....I must admit I hoped I would know the end result from the beginning so I'm finding that thought tricky at the moment!

Would you be so kind as to point me in the direction of more info on the Australian line of labradoodle and what direction I should go to get closer to a non shedding fleece coat? If indeed this is possible.

Ok if u go on the website I suggested earlier in the thread think it's ukdoodleclub. They have some of the best breeders of Australian Labradoodles in this country and if u join the forum then the breeders will answer any questions u may have. My two are Australian and non-shedding, the breeders I would recommend are Doodledoos (where mine are from), Raisdoodles and Manorborn, all are based in Hereford and obviously carry out every relevant health test on the parents and the puppies are also health checked before being homed. I think they will be able to answer any questions u have and then u can go from there. Good luck xxxxx

Whereabouts are you? Paul Gretton's Lola has recently had a litter, they are F2s, not aussies, based near Norwich.
