6 months and eating less

Post by Coco » 04 Jul 2015, 08:57

Yesterday morning and this morning, Coco has only eaten about half of her food, although She ate the full amount yesterday evening. This is very unlike her as she is usually a right greedy guts and wolfs everything down at the rate of knots. She is still lively and happy and her stools are normal.

Should I be worried or is it normal for puppies to eat less as they get older and bigger? She is on Nutriment raw and I am feeding 5% of her body weight a day as recommended.

Any advice gratefully received!

can she be too hot and bothered?

Is she a foodie (likes food or give or take it)?

Is she drinking okay?

Playing okay?

Getting more treats than normal?

Just a few questions from a dog owner but others may have more of an insight

As a puppy Lulu didn't eat too much and was very extremely particular with the food but now she's three she is a food machine - will eat anything and everything (except treats from the vet as she doesn't trust him)

Hi Denise

She's not hot and bothered - in fact it's quite cool here this morning.

She LOVES her food - will eat anything and everything usually.

She's drinking fine - quite a lot, but then it has been warm here.

Playing as usual - full of beans in fact.

In fact, seems completely normal apart from the fact that she's eating less. If anything else was awry is take her to the vet but I don't want to over-react if it's normal for appetites to fluctuate.

I wouldn't worry too much if she is eating anyway and pooing and drinking, perhaps she is just finding herself.

Lulu is F1 and when she was a puppy was fussy and things she would woolf down she decided not to like any more and I changed her food a couple of times, even on raw which I had to cook for her to eat (she wouldn't eat raw) - but now she has turned into a lab she isnt fussy although still won't eat raw.

So see how she goes, does she still eat her treats?

It does vary - Pups can have as much as 10% of their bodyweight, but as they get closer to full size, then they start to need less as they head towards the 2-3%, so maybe Coco is just stating to need a bit less. If the poops are OK and she is still lively then I wouldn't be over worried if it were my dog.

Thanks both - she is back to normal today so was just a slight blip. Being a first-time dog owner I do tend to worry when anything out of the ordinary happens so appreciate your wisdom!
