Hello Jane, you own some stunning poodles!, I was just wondering if you would be interested in breeding your blue poodle Louis with my f2 labradoodle, teddi, early next year? I know that this is very far into the future, but concluding that all is well with Teddi, (she is still a pup at the moment) and that she is healthy, I would love her to have a litter from a poodle such as Louis. Many thanks Jamie

thank you for telling me this, your dogs look so sweet!, I have heard so many different opinions on when to breed and I thought it was around the 3rd season a female could breed, however I am not sure..

I am not a breeder either, but I do remember when the code of practice on this site was set up, the breeders involved were all of the view that a bitch isn't mature enough to breed from until she is 2 years old. Also, until she is fully mature you won't really know if her temperament is such that she is suitable for breeding from. For example even the prettiest bitch with excellent hip and elbow scores and good eyes is not really suitable for breeding if she turns out to be timid, or fearful etc. The Labradoodle Puppy finder has a lot of information about health testing etc http://www.labradoodlepuppyfinder.com/, and also about the information you need about your bitches parents and grandparents health scores and history.

Argentcymru Standard poodles has since tested SA in 5 of our standard poodles.....4 came back as clear...the 5th came back as equivocal...so we retested 6 months later to have a CLEAR.....BUT...let me just quote the concluding paragraph from the laboratory that SA tested our standards...
"Keep in mind, though no evidence of sabaceous adenitis is observed in these sections of skin examined, animals can develop sebcaeous adenitis later in life. Also, this disease is not fully understood and could involve multiple genes. In addition, phenotypically normal skin (histologically) does not confirm that the animal is genetically free of this disease.
