Has anyone on here used Comfortis for fleas?
Up until now we have been regularly using Frontline and have never had any problems. Two weeks ago I applied Frontline but this past week Dude has been very itchy and I have 2flea bites too! He obviously has a passenger! I gave him a Johnsins 4Fleas to no effect. Today I popped to the vets and the receptionist gave me a Comfortis 1620mg tablet to give with food. She warned it might cause vomiting.
Since getting home I have been googling and have terrified myself by reading horror stories about the chemicals in these tablets
Can anyone offer their experiences please? Anny

Nope, never heard of it. Maybe you should both eat more garlic
Sometimes can just a rogue flea that causes lot of scratching.
Have you checked out options on MyItchy Dog website.
I'm still using Billy No Mates liquid.

We have a huge problem with ticks, rather than fleas. These beasties are dangerous rather than just annoying. My son has Lyme disease so I have become an expert in prevention.
I tried the natural route for a while with many supplements or sprays. Although reasonably effective, ticks were still evident. We live in the Highlands, in a Lyme hot spot.
I also have heard many horror stories of chewable tablets. As there is no antidote to the tablets and the chemical is in the dogs system until it wears off, we have resorted to Seresto collar. It seems to work and at least if there is a reaction, it can be whipped off. So far, so good.

Would I need a vets prescription for the collar? That sounds like a great idea- we have lots of ticks on The Quantocks here in Somerset. A collar that protects against fleas and ticks sounds ideal. Dude has a v sensitive tum so I'm not happy about this Comfortis tablet
We eat loads of garlic here, I'm just one of those unfortunate people who fleas/mosies adore! Anny

I think they're only available from vets. Mine charger£32 and I don't need to see the vet as they know my dogs. It lasts 6-8 months, but a bit less if the collar gets wet regularly.
It's not ideal, as it's still chemicals, but it is our preferred solution.

Also, if you're on Facebook, have a look at the group 'does Bravetc kill dogs?' Scary stuff and enough to put anyone off giving these flea tablets.

Thankyou, we are v close to Taunton. I've decided to hold fire on treatment til after D has his regular summer groom on Monday. Perhaps a good bath and cut will dislodge some passengers?! Funnily enough he wasn't itching at all yesterday evening or this morning

I'm going to go back to our vet to express my concerns- and hand back the Comfortis tablet! I will see if the vet can provide a prescription for a collar and update you. Anny

I thought both onion and garlic were on the list of foods toxic to dogs!

The studies were flawed as only some dogs showed a reaction to garlic and onions and only in massive quantities.
Garlic in particular, is very good for dogs in low quantities. A clove a day can help prevent infection and deter critters from jumping on board. Dorwest even do two different garlic supplements for dogs. They wouldn't do this if it was poisonous!
