Arthur is 9 months old and is a very good dog most of the time. However the one thing that we can't seem to get him out of is his mad crazy attacks which seem to occur twice a day, usually after he has eaten. He just goes bonkers, leaping up pulling at clothes and biting arms and hands. The bigger he gets the more painful this is becoming. I have tried saying "OUCH" and "NO" and turning my back but he then just jumps up and nips my back. We usually end up having to drag him by the collar into the kitchen to have some time out on his own. My arms are covered in bruises and I'm rapidly running out of work clothes that don't have rips in them!! Please tell me this is something they eventually grow out of??

Lottie should be grown up but she still has mad half hours after meals. She does not bite but if she does catch anyone with her teeth we squeal and stop the game by putting her outside!
She also still doodle dashes in the garden and at the end of her walk. Maybe Doodles don't grow up???

i feel your pain (literally ) Riley is 7 months old now and well into his 'teenage' years,a lot of the time he gets over-excited and bites and like you, we say ouch and turn our back and he just sees this as an extension of 'his' game and also bites our back, arm, fingers,in fact anything he can get hold of. i sometimes wonder if i should have him trained as one of those police dogs that grab the arm to bring down the criminal, as Riley has this manoeuvre off to a t! I dont mind the nutty doodle dashing,it actually makes me smile but the biting(and it is painful) is driving me mad im also getting fed up having to leave the room,or putting him into another room/hall, to calm down. i will be watching this thread with interest (and hope ) to see how others have coped and dealt with this. sue aimee & riley

Teddy is now 1 and i'm convinced getting worse so i do sympathise!!!!!!!!!!!! Its usually in the evening and results in her getting relegated to the kitchen! I'm hoping she'll calm down as she gets older. She is also a dreadful thief, everything in our house has had to be taken out of her reach. If she can reach it, its gone, whether it be a garden light, washing, dvd etc, etc. I wouldn't mind (well I would) if she just destroyed things but she actually eats them so its not just the frustation of the destruction but also the worry of her hurting herself.

We are also having this issue with Rossetti He will be five months on 12th June, so up till now we have seen it as a puppy phase that he'll grow out of, perhaps connected with teething etc. However, reading of all you guys with slightly older doodles still having the same problem several months down the line, I'm not so sure. We also don't mind the doodle-dashing, it's the nipping/biting and pulling/tearing of clothes that we object to Personally I'm no longer able to wear a skirt 'cos of the ankle biting, but now the warmer weather is here and boots are too hot, bare toes in flip flops are way too much of a temptation, so not sure what to do Hopefully the ignoring and time-out sessions will eventually have the desired effect, but at the moment Zetti just thinks it's a game and attempting to turn your back/remove him from the room or even leaving the room yourself just results in a further attack!

Archie too He is now eight months and still has the twice daily "doodle dash", the last one being when I let him into the garden for his last wee of the night! He gets VERY bouncy and hyper and just goes crazy round and round the garden. The morning one, in the house, involves racing round the living room, off both sofas, round both sofas, under kitchen table and so on. He also does the play biting too, which now he has his full set of teeth can be very painful. I shout "No" and "naughty" in a very loud voice and he stops and looks at me as if to say "Sorry, was that TOO much?" He loves to nibble on my toes too, which can be very sore I reckon we should all have calm doodles by the time they're five or six Kirsty and Archie

Gracie will be 3 in August and Maddie's just 2 and they are still doing Doodle dashes inside and outside and still as bonkers as ever.. Sorry people but I really think it's all part of their breed and something that takes a long lonnnnnng time to grow out of.. As I type this, Gracie is upside down riding her bike with all fours while barking and snorting .. Daise xxx

Yup Kizzy has just turned one and has literally just finished ricocheting off my two sofas. She does this a few times a week. I will say that she went through a biting phase and this has recently stopped so there is hope. My problem is when I leave her, I don't crate her and when I return (10 mins or an hour makes no difference) she jumps up. I've tried turning my back, going back out etc. to no avail. As she's big and I'm small it can be painful, mostly from scratches. It's nice that she's glad to see me but she won't let go an "hugs" me so that we're doing a conga down the hallway! Still small price to pay for a loving dog. x

Wurly does jump, but she has never nipped, even as a wee pup, we were just very lucky. But she still has her mad dashing & jumping days, around the house & garden , not sure when she’ll grow out of that. She’s mad as a box of frogs, & is 19 months old now , so good luck, I’m sure the nipping will stop as he gets older, keep doing what your doing he will get the message that nipping is not ok.

Wilf was a terrible biter when he was a small puppy he would attack me relentlessly. I actually considered rehoming him as it was really getting to me. My husband is home all the time with him but I work 12 hour shifts and as soon as I got in the door he would start. All my clothes had rips in them and my arms and legs were covered in bruises for nearly a year. He never did it to my husband just me. He did eventually grow out of it. We tried everything and the only thing that had any effect was me leaving the room whenever he started on me. I must have spent more time out of the room than in it at times . It was a long process getting him to stop and if i'me honest he will still have the very occasional nip when he dashes about. He has grown into a lovely dog though. Stick with it you will get over this stage.

JudeinPlymouth wrote: Fletcher is nearly two and Douglas is 6 months in a couple of weeks time. I've certainly noticed a difference second time around as Douglas 'lets off steam' with Fletcher rather than us.... but I don't think they ever grown out of 'doodle dashing' and I love to see it... it makes me But our doodle dashes have never involved biting! I would have thought that at the age some of your 'puppies' are they shouldn't be nipping you anymore and I can imagine it would hurt if they are anything like the size of Fletcher One thing that's been mentioned on this forum before in relation to behaviour troubles is food. Are any of you feeding your pups food with colourings in like Bakers? This can sometimes have a bad affect on behaviour just in the same way that colours and additives do with children. 99.9% anything can be resolved with consistency (says the person who hasn't even done proper puppy training with Douglas ) so don't give up!! Our doodle dashes don't involve biting either....the actual nipping is a separate issue, although he does leap up excitedly at us sometimes mid-dash Our nipping takes place (mainly about MY person, not DH, lol!) whilst walking about the house or garden, and although I've tried the 'ignoring/time-out' approach, having a house like a building site with few internal doors and lots of excitement going on with builders etc outside obviously doesn't help Good job we have a large garden with plenty of space for him to let off steam! Food-wise, Zetti came to us from Rai on Royal Canin, but is now on Orijen with toppers of Applaws/home-cooked veg/chicken/cheese/goat's yoghurt etc..... As Zetti is not yet 5 months, we are continuing to be firm with him regarding the nipping, hope it is just a teething/play issue that he will eventually grow out of, but as far as the doodle dashes are concerned long may they continue
