These all seem like great ideas. Peggy is ok at the moment with just a space hopper squeaker butI can see that I may have to go down the sausage route. If you pardon the expression. Might try the whistle cheese method next

Helen.

This is the one thing that Wurly excels at :D .

But we also walk my sisters dog Fred (Westie) who is a complete nightmare  he’s only 9 months, but once he’s off his lead he just won’t come back & will follow any dog he see’s :( . With Wurly we use the whistle and treat (normally sausage) and started Fred on this training too, thinking it would work just as well  . But no, nothing works, not me shouting, leaping around & being exciting  , not even Wurly  (& Fred adores his big cousin)

So my next option is the squeaky toy, fingers crossed this works :D , as Fred loves being off lead & having a good run, having never had a terrier before I’m finding it all a bit bewildering :? My parents have Fred 4 days a week (While my sisters at work, she picks him up every evening) & I would love him to be of his lead with Wurly.

Yes I was going to say he's a terrier so I would expect him to be very single minded!!! I'm sure a squeaky toy will do the job - anything that "rags" about would be a bonus.

There are lots of good ideas here and I think I'm going to need to use a training lead at first. I had a nightmare today, let her off with alot of other dogs, she wore them out and just wouldn't let me put her back on lead. It does make me feel like a failure on times and I wonder what the other dog owners think of me  Kizzy, however had a fantastic time and has been sleeping eversince

You absolutely are not a failure!!!

I know understand where you are coming from though. I used to have real problems with Sandys recall at training classes. I would get really flustered as it was perfect at home. My trainer pointed out to me that I was worrying too much about not looking a fool in front of the other owners, and not concentrating on what Sandy needed, which was me to be calm and focused on her. As soon as I relaxed, things got better. Now if Sandy isn't listening to me, the first thing I do is take a deep breath and focus. I can't tell you how many times this has solved the problem. I don't think you'll find many dog owners that haven't had recall issues at one time or another. They are more likely to be sympathising with you, and if there not, who cares! Kizzy is still learning. You are doing an excellent job with her. Stay positive and keep up the good work :D

Ps. I wouldn't be with out my training lead/long line. Makes it so much easier to teach Sandy new things with that extra line of communication. I got her to stop dead in the middle of a retrieve today, anything is possible :D

Well, so far, getting Sybil back involves me thoroughly humiliating myself and acting like an absolute animated clown (always apologising and warning other dog owners in advance of my behaviour!) - but it's working and she has only gone off with others a couple of times!! I'm hoping to be able to tone it down in the not too distant future!!!!

Went to dog training tonight and was told that we could let Barney off the lead on walks - awesome!! Great tips here, and I discovered this morning that hot dogs will guarantee Barney to run back to me!!! :D
