Hi all,

Having recently had wonderful support from an online forum for the treatment of my diabetic cat (don't ask!!) I thought I would turn to this crazy virtual world in my journey to becoming a proud Labradoodle owner.

We do not yet have a puppy. We haven't even selected a breeder yet however my partner and I are hoping to take on a Labradoodle puppy around the beginning of August. This is the time we can offer the new addition the most attention and help it settle in. I have never owned a dog from a puppy before and neither of us have any experience with Labradoodles (although my partner has lived with both Labs and a Standard Poodle if this help in anyway :? ), so I have a million questions about how to go about this the best way. For now however I will start by just saying hi!!

:D

Hello Lisa

Welcome to this fabulous forum! It is full of friendly, knowledgeable people who know oodles about doodles

I had a Diabetic Retriever who passed away on New Years Eve and we got Archie in January! It was such a shock going from an elderly dog to a crazy puppy, but the journey has been brilliant - so far

Good luck in your search and please continue to visit until and when you get your new arrival :D

Hi Lisa,
Welcome to the wonderful ( most times manic ) world of doodles, I would recommend that you try and get to a doodle meet and have the chance to meet as many doodles as you can, they are all so different but it will give you an idea of what you could end up with
If you post where abouts you are in the country then people may be able to suggest some meets that may be happening near you.
You will not be able to imagne life without your doodle once you get hooked

A big furry hello from all of us.

We only joined yesterday and we are having such fun as well as all the info you can glean from all the members.

We have had lots of different breeds over the years, and took the plunge to own a doodle after finally saying goodbye to our much loved, and irreplaceable 14 year old boxer girl (Blaze) in February this year.

Ember is such a comic and I hope you find a breeder you gel with soon so you can start your journey with your very own doodle. :D

Good luck.

Welcome from us too - good luck with your doodle search. Doodles are dogs with a sense of humour, and are a lot of fun. I think your OH will have a fair idea what they can be like if he has lived with labs & poodles :D :D

Thank you all.

We are in Norfolk, out in the good old countryside.

I have been to view one litter however I could not commit to a puppy as not only would they have been ready a bit too soon for us (not so much of an issue) but it was a bit overwhelming making such a big choice (not the decision to get a Labradoodle but choosing one puppy and knowing that was 'the one'!).

My partner (always the voice of reason :? ) encouraged me to have a think and suggested I meet another litter/Labradoodle or two before deciding on a puppy.

I will keep everybody posted on our progress and continue to scan the wealth of information on here. I'll also try not to ask too many questions! Thanks for being so welcoming.

x

I expect you've seen the breeders code of practice on here - it makes a good starting point when you are looking for a breeder.

Hello! About 2 or 3 months ago we were in your exact same shoes! We owned a cat but not a dog, knew we wanted a Dood without having met one and also didn't know how we were supposed to pick a puppy!!

Lots of benefits to having a boy or a girl dog which is worthy of a thread on it's own ;) Which really helps narrowing down a puppy. (But in the end we wanted a girl and Barney was only 2 weeks old and he just looked the one!! Couldn't tell you what it was but even Hubs thought the same :) )

Any questions just ask!

Hi,

Welcome to the forum,

Try and find a good breeder, ensure that both parents health can be proven ie. hips and eyes, when it comes to choosing a puppy from a litter you will just have to follow your heart. If its the right puppy you'll probably feel an instant connection as we did with Oscar.

Good luck.

Hi Lisa and OH

You are beeing really sensible and responsible in your search for a doodle pup - I have always previously had big muscly dogs like dobermanns, rhodesian ridgeback, bull mastiff etc. Never thought about a doodle but my lovely ridgeback died suddenly and I felt I wanted to get a completely different dog and went to see a doodle litter - I fell in love instantly and bought little Pixie home at 10 weeks old. It was fairly chaotic but great fun too and she has grown into a long leggy beautiful bearded girl who is an absolute delight.
I have never ever had the same breed twice but the same lady who bred pixie had another litter from a different lab and poodle (a miniature this time) and I fell in love again with Jasmine (Jazz). She is fabulous and as naughty as hell too !!
I am a complete convert - Half the pleasure is not quite knowing what your pup will end up like - looks and temperment (particularly with an F1). Now these codes like F1, F2b etc need looking into when you are considering your pup so it is worth doing some homework on that too (there are sites who will explain this far better than I can)
Try and get to a doodle meet - you will love it and meet so many different looking dogs (and owners!)
AND finally ask as many questions as you like - there are so many helpful and knowledgable people on here who will love to help you out
Kathy

One thing is for sure, you will never be bored with a doodle! Hope you find the right puppy for you - although they do say that the dog finds the owner :D

You're so right there Mandy!

Archie chose us - he sat on James's (other half) feet and chewed his laces and trouser leg while all the other pups wandered about when we went to see the litter

Should have seen that as an omen though as he now LOVES my feet but at eight months old, it isn't so cute any more :?
