Hi All
Would like some advice on feeding,Rio always woof's his food down don't think it even touches the side it's gone in seconds, than 9 times out of 10 he gets the hiccups,i tried putting one of his feeds in a toy that drops the food out when played with Rio really seemed to enjoy it and managed to eat every bit, this was done in ctare where he has all his meals and of course the meal lasted longer,is this a good idea,or am i asking for future problems,ie eating of the floor.
Rio has 4 meals a day.

Hi there
Yes we make Rosie sit and wait while we prepare her dinner, put it down then tell her when she can take it. It seems to have calmed her down with it.
Regards
Susan & Rosie

try putting something in the bowl with his food such as his kong or the like - it will slow him down so he won't get the hiccups (Scruffy Dog did exactly the same thing!!!)

Hi Lorenza, I have noticed that Poppies appetite has increased over the past few days and wondered if i should increase the amount. I checked the food sack ( I presume Rio is on Royal Canine like Poppy )and the guide line is to increase it each month, so i have slghtly increased the amount. Poppy has grown soooo much i can't believe it. As for woofing it down, putting a kong in sounds like a good idea, have to say i don't have that with Pops but she always polishes off every last piece.

Scruff is also on Royal Canin but about to change over to Arden Grange.
The kong this really does work - he used to get the most dreadful hiccups before but it just slows him down enough to not get them now. Then he licks it to pieces at the end!

Hi all,
Thanks for your replies,
Donz i will try the kong idea perhaps having to eat round it will slow him down, is there a reason your changing scruff's feed?
Larlie i was also thinking of increasing Rio's feed just a bit worried in case he gets to fat,he has grown quite a bit as well, seems to be getting taller as well as broader. will have a word with vet on monday Rio's going to have his microchip done, also might have his bark removed lol

Arden Grange appear to have better nutritional value and better for the dog - although RC is great don't get me wrong. They are owned by Mars and do a lot of yuck testing.
Also, I can get AG from my training school so just as easy to get for me. the school put a lot of research into current ranges of foods for us which is great.

Im not pushing it down your throats but have any of you considered feeding an easily available and quite cheap alternative to processed food; that is meat and bone. Now Im not talking about best chunks of beef, but prepacked convenient sized minced meat with small bone chip contents available in 14oz frozen packs from many pet stores and certainly from petsathome. You do not even pay VAT on this meat as it isnt processed. If it suits, you can bulk order for home delivery to your freezer from the manufacturers, Anglian Meat Products, who also sell a quality biscuit mixer and large free flow packs of whole meat chunks at a fraction of the price you would pay the supermarket. I feed 2 meals a day of these packets, My spayed bitch has one a day divided between the two meals with a tiny handful of biscuit and Merry 2 1/2 packets with fertile bitches having 1 1/2 each with varying amounts of biscuit. It is very easy to prepare as I just put them whole in the microwave and zap 1 for 4 mins and 4 for 12 mins. Once the dogs were gently moved from another feed to this over a period of 2 weeks I found that they gobbled less but eat very enthusiastically, had firm poos and overfeeding could be easily monitored (and looseness is the usual sign of overfeeding) Look at my www to see the superb condition of my dogs and they were all reared on these meats as are so many other show and agility dogs.
For some weird reason Vets push the processed food at people but to be honest very few vets these days have much personal experience of dogs (and have never bred a litter) except as patients, and one vet absolutely refused to believe that a bitch I have simply cannot tolerate rice, which is the normal addition in processed food, when the evidence of her unhappiness would fill my yard
You can look at the website http://www.prizechoice.co.uk/ for the unprocessed range and their other range on http://www.naturesmenu.co.uk/ where there is natures menu biscuit All products can be delivered together.
PS I am not involved with the company in any way except as a very happy customer.

I was interested to see you microwave the meat.
I have been mixing some meat into Candys Royal Canin in increasing quantities to get her used to it before changing completely but have fed it to her raw.
Am I doing it wrong
I thought I'd seen somewhere to feed it raw
I'm using the meat you buy frozen from Pets at home.
