Bit of a long story but here goes- we are in the process of converting a barn for us to move into, it will be completed on 27th may. We put our house on the market last week and rather surprisingly sold it to the first people to view, they want to move in by mid March. We are prepared to rent somewhere to cover us until the end of may (approx 6 weeks) but everywhere around here will not take dogs!!!. We have 2 dogs a small Jack Russell that I can ask my Dad to look after for those few weeks and a 9 month old ASD/Springer-he is causing me the headache at the moment as he is too lively for my 81 year old Dad to look after as well, and my mother in law has a very elderly and grumpy Tibetan Terrier, so she is not able to help. I was wondering if the labradoodle trust are able to offer me any advice here in terms of short term fostering, I would obviously cover all costs and donations, my other options are A) Kennel- I really can not bring myself to do this for so long and when he is so young, I want him to live with a family in their home. B)Send him to a trainer if there is such a person who would do training with him(he could do with more work in some areas)and permit him to live in their home as one of the family. This option may be too expensive even if there was such a person. Max is a super friendly and loving dog.He has never caused us any major worries. I think he has all the Doodle characteristics-can get over excited when meeting people and dogs when out walking but in the home he is happy to fit in around us. If anyone can think of any other solutions I would appreciate it-we really do not want to loose this buyer and with having 3 school age children we are quite restricted to where we can move to temporarily in terms of them getting to and from school.

He is beautiful, it must be awful to have to part with him even short term. Whereabouts do you live? Congrats on getting a sale so quickly, OK it is causing headaches but it is good news all the same.

TBH I haven't contacted his breeder purely because of the distance-4/5 hour journey each way. I don't know if I would be comfortable with him that far away for so long, but it is worth thinking about-thanks.

Have you considered renting a holiday caravan? I know it's not ideal as the ones that take pets are the bronze ones but it will save you parting from your beloved pets:) and it's cheaper than renting http://www.park-resorts.com/accommodation.asp

Have you searched the net for doggy day care as some who provide day care also provide longer term ? also worth looking at dog walkers our dog walker also does boarding in his own home so better than kennels so worth exploring. Oh And ask at your vets, I know one of the vet nurses were we take ours to does dog boarding to earn some extra money, but the vets may know someone somewhere or may know someone that will foster for a few week?
Good luck

Give him to me !!! Think i might run away with him though !
Thanks for the info you gave me on his breeding and breeder. I rang her this week and she gave me lots of useful info. Will need to save up a bit more for one though !
Good luck with your search.

He's gorgeous! A caravan sounds a great idea, maybe a static? People who did a barn conversion near me did just that.

have you thought of speaking to dog trainers in the area and asking if they do housing?

Thanks for all your help,a caravan on site isn't feasible because the stage we are at means that there is no spare room available on site as the garden is being landscaped and it isn't a very big site. I have looked at "holiday" static caravans but there is nothing faintly nearby. I will try and look into local trainers that would be willing to have him live with them BTBH I don't know of any and would be happier going on a recommendation. We live near to Huntingdon

Have you actually sorted out a place for the humans in your family to stay for the few weeks between moving out and finishing your conversion ? Just wondering because here it would be impossible to find anything so short term; it would be a six month let. The reason for my query is that I was thinking perhaps you could negotiate a reasonable rate and take Max with you if you stayed in a small hotel/guest house. Not ideal but it may be difficult to find a perfect solution. These people specialise in finding rental properties for people with animals so may be worth a look http://www.petfriendlyrentals.co.uk/faq.htmlIt might be worth advertising for a short term animal friendly let in your local paper; some people might be glad of additional income if they are away from home for any reason. Do hope you find a solution soon. Katherine
