I didnt want to get involved with the rehoming post but it did make me think how easy it is to live in a small house with a large dood.I downsized just after getting Lizzie ,we live in a small 2 bed bungalow with a small garden we manage very well all be it no room for a crate. We walk every day and she has her friends over for playdays. When were at the caravan she seems really large but we still cope.Bless her I love her to bits.Freda

I agree Freda - as long as they get walked, have a place to sleep and have somewhere for toileting, one doodle needn't take up a lot of room (although more than one can take up quite a bit of space  ). It's more important imo to give them exercise and company.

They may not take up much space in your house, but they take up a huge amount of space in your life!

If you have a big garden it takes some of the pressure off for walks etc. as they can burn off energy in the comfort of their own home, but its still no substitute for walks for stimulation & socialising.

Some people cope differently with different situations and have different perceptions of a dogs needs.

Since getting our caravan we have realised that it is quite compact. It would be quite roomy for the two of us but add two mad doodles into the mix and its a bit tight!! Fortunately they spend most of the day outside or in the large awning. At night I am soft hearted and allow them to come inside with us. I do, however insist that they do not sleep on the bed!!! They walk their legs off during the day so they sleep really well. :D I agree that as long as they get free time to run and walk the size of accommodation does not matter. If they are well exercised they sleep in their baskets most of the time while they are indoors.

I agree...I could live in a 1bed flat with no garden and Ben wouldnt mind.

As long as he had me, his routine and his walks, he would be as happy as a pig in muck :D

I used to have a tiny little 2 bed house (tiny kitchen and lounge dinner) and two Lab crosses (one Doodle one Collie x Lab) and a little Collie x Springer. They all had their own beds in the living room and kitchen (well, the Doodle always slept in the bedroom at night). We also had a teenage son and a baby (and you know how much 'stuff' babies need!). We survived (and it was good prep for caravan holidays later :D)

We have Woof a big dood, along with two boys of 2 and 5 in a small mid terrace 2 bed house. Rooms are small, everythings a squeeze, but we manage, we just have patience and walk around one another.......a lot.

We have a 4 storey house. Far more space than we would ever need. We have 2 cats and 1 dog and not one of them would care a jot if we moved to a tiny bedsit. The only thing a larger house has helped with is when the cats need to get away from a playful doodle. They're 14 and have very little patience for a bouncy young 'un when she gets in one of her playful moods.

We have a small courtyard garden but we do have acres and acres of parkland as our extended back garden. I don't see how it matters what size your house or garden is because they still need to go out for walks for so many reasons. Even if you have a huge back garden they still need to get out for walks.

We have a modest amount of room but even if we did have to live somewhere smaller Jasper would come with us. He's part of our family and even after only 6 months with us we can't imagine our life without him. Even if we lived in a mansion I know for a fact wherever we would be in the house he would be too as he likes to be with us! If I ever had to rehome him, I would use the trust, I would never want any money for him I would just want people who would love him as much as we do. I'd also need updates too as I'd go crazy if I never knew he was ok and well cared for.

I think that I am very lucky that I am able to live where I do.

I have a four bedroom detatch Bungalow in a gorgeous peaceful village in North Wales. I have a huge back garden backing onto a open field that we are allowed to us eif so wished. it is a place where is so safe to leave your back door open so my dog can come in and go out when ever he pleases.

My dog is part of my family and he will never be excluded from it where ever I go

BUT

Things can change and peoples circumstances can change. I would like to think that I love my dog so much I would do what is best for HIM. NO ONE knows your dog as well as you do.

If I had to re-home him I am sorry but I would do it privately. I would NOT ask for any money but I would want to know who he was going to, meet the family, meet the vet they were planning to use, and also make sure that the move would be as unstressful as possible for MY DOG.

I know of someone who has re-homed their dog privately for nothing, I also know of someone who has re-homed their dog through as rescue organisation (no not RSPCA)

The rescue organisation got it wrong and it was diseasterous. The private re-homing was perfect and my friend still gets regular uopdates and contact from the new family SHE chose.

I am sure Labradoodle Trust do a fantastic job, but each person is different for what they want for their dogs who know them THE BEST. If all they want is a happy and healthy life for their dog then no way is the right or wrong way imo

I downsized about 5 years ago (pre-doods!), to a lovely little Victorian terraced house bang in the middle of a lovely vibrant village, and with fields and woods and canal-sides and hills all there for the walking!!!! My house is 15 feet wide! (But quite long!!) We (ie 2 doods and me!) have a 100 ft long garden, which I s'pose is good - but Molly and Saffie prefer the variety of their walks, as do I! When they playfight indoors, it's a bit much!!! But, like others, I think that, provided your doods are loved and happy and have exercise, their world is good!

We have a large garden however Dexter is not that bothered about going out in it - he much prefers to go for walks!
