hi there
We are narrowing our search for our doodle now - thanks to all the advise !!! We are going to look for a miniature doodle now given that we have 2 young children it might be a more sensible option. I was talking to someone today who said that as the miniature doodles are breed from miniature poodles they are much more snappy then you standard doodle ? Is this right, i know all dogs are different but do the have more tendancy than others ? This will be an important factor with 2 young children.
Many thanks Marsi

Hi Marsi,
I have a miniature doodle with a great temperament. I work with young children, she is very gentle with them, they could even take food from her (not that i would encourage that) and she doesnt bother, around the older children she is more hyper and boisterous but never snappy. Our breeder only uses dogs with proven good temperaments to breed from so maybe you could check this out with potential breeders you are thinking of visiting. If the parents have good temperaments you should be more likely to get a pup with the same characteristics. Good luck with your search.

Hi I think you are making a good choice in getting a smaller dood, I have met a minature Australian doodle and he was very friendly and not at all snappy, minature poodles have been known to be snappy but doodles seem to be really family friendly. Also I have met a cockapoo (poodlex cocker spaniel) and he was very friendly too

Aggi is far from snappy.... she hardly ever even barks.. but like most doodles does like to jump up at you, she seems to be just has happy on two paws than all four. She is a small miniature..taller than a miniature poodle..about knee height.. but small enough to be picked up and out of the way if necessary..not that it ever is..but some small kids might find any dog frightening. I grew up with miniature poodles and they were never snappy..as posted..look for good temperament in the parents and don't let your kids tease the dog and you'll be fine..but always keep any young children supervised. My daughter grew up with a German Shepherd and they used to have their afternnon sleep together in the dog basket. ..it's all in how you treat them. I never met a snappy doodle ever.

Hi, I have a 50-50 miniature Doodle - and three boys aged 9, 5 and 3 and they all get on amazingly well together. As the boys have been around Coco from the frist day we bought her home she is so used to them and my boys have learnt to respect and look after her. They have so much fun together and she is amazingly tolerant and gentle - especially of my three year old who will roll around on the floor with her and cuddle her! I would definitely recommend this type of dog to anyone with children. Good luck with your search!

Hi,
we have 2 children who were aged 5 & 9 when Woody came into out lives last November. His mum was a labradoodle (23 inch) and his dad a miniature poodle (15 inch). Temperament was a major consideration for us when we were looking for a doodle having two kids and I have got to say that Woody is just the best. He does not seem to have one ounce of agresssion in him and is certainly not snappy. He is now 5 months old and has never snapped or growled or anything (and my now 6 year old daughter rolls all over him and has picked up his toys and food etc. ). She was also not used to dogs when we got him adn was a little nervous but to look at her now you would never have known! He is like a big teddy bear (he now stands at 17 inches and still growing so you can never predict size although some of his siblings are a few inches smaller). He was a mouthy puppy though but he has now grown out of it. I do think it's important that the parents have good temperaments though. Happy searching!

I dont think you can generalise dogs, they really are all very different.I have a lovely natured soft big doodle lad who wouldnt hurt a fly and I know he wouldnt harm the kids, they lie all over him when he is on the rug in the living room .He also has a doodle friend who is exactly the same temperament, but I also used to own another doodle who is my softy boy's brother. He was not to be trusted with children and would often jump up and nip our kids and visiting kids sneakily, even after a year old .I know doodles are great family dogs, but I would advise anyone to be very careful -even puppies have very sharp teeth.
