Hello from across the pond! Getting hooked up with you brits as my mom is english and dad was an american in the air force. I was born in Cambridge and have lots of family in the St. Ives Hemingford Abbotts area. Love and miss my motherland so much. Thoroughly enjoying the olympics right now. I live in a suburb of Atlanta, Georgia. I got my crazy labradoodle in December. He is 10 mos. old and acts like a teenager who wants the keys to the car!!!!! I just want to share and hear about all the dudalicous stories and advice. My doodle is named 'Dude'. Full name Sir Dude Weatherby of Troy. Born in Troy, Alabama. As we speak he is very angelic as he sleeps below my feet in front of the air conditioner vent. However, fifteen minutes ago he was tearing around the house with a throw pillow. It is very hot here in the south, so taking him out during the day is done in short spurts. Im afraid he gets bored with me. He loves my 22 yr. old son when he comes through the door though. We walk him in morning and at night. He has been to two training courses and I did have a trainer to the house for some one on one. My problem is he is very mouthy. Trainer seems to think he is stressing. After having him retreive in the backyard, he tires and stops after four rounds of throw. She felt like his right back leg was favored and the stress is due to pain. Have had him at dr. and have him on anti-inflammatory for a month. After that will take xray to determine situation. Think he may have hip dysplasia. Wondering if anyone else having a issues such as this. Dude is 761/2lbs. We call him 'The Beast' but love him just the same. I will say, somedays I feel I have made a mistake. Its been 22 yrs. since I had a baby in the house. Phew, he wears me out! Any similar stories???? I'd like to send some pics but not sure how?

Hi there - welcome to you & Dude - he sounds like a typical teenage doodle . Photos are easy if you load them into photobucket first. Then you just copy and paste the img code that photobucket generates for you - looking forward to seeing some pics of Dude. My oldest doodle Daisy has hip dysplasia - hers wasn't discovered until she was 2, and fortunately isn't severe enough to need an op. I hope Dude hasn't got it, but if he has he is fortunate in finding out early as there are more options open to a youngster if surgery is needed. Hopefully he will be fine, but if not it is possible to manage mild and moderate HD, and severe cases can be operated on. Daisy has a few supplements to help her joints, uses a ramp to get in and out of the car, and doesn't play ball. Apart from that she is as happy and active a doodle as my others, and no-one who meets her would know there was anything wrong with her (as anyone who has met us on a meet will verify )

Hi and welcome Deb & Dude Sounds like you have a 'normal' dood there! Would love to see some pics of the 'beast' soon! Our dood is just over 2 years now and both myself and my OH agree that she is slowly calming down. Not so many doodle dashes around the house now. Hope to hear more about Dude soon

Hi, I can't help with the hips but can maybe reassure you about the mouthing. My dog has always been extremely mouthy and this has made him hard work to live with sometimes. He's now nearly 2 and a half and still mouths when very excited, but its so much better than it was, and he does try to control himself now whereas when he was younger he had no self control whatsoever. I found the only way that worked with him was to make sure he had lots to chew and plenty of toys to distract him when necessary, and the most important thing was to completely ignore him when he started mouthing - no reprimand, no squeal, no nothing. So you've still got a baby, just a big one, and he's gonna be a baby for a while yet. Hopefully if you can sort out his pain this will help with the mouthing too.
