Hi all,
I bought some chicken wings for Izzy today and have popped them into the freezer. I am sure I have read that some of you give them to your doodles straight from the freezer but just wanted to check that it's ok to do that. I know cooked chicken bones are dangerous for dogs but raw frozen is ok? how about raw fresh? Bit of a novice here so would appreciate some guidance!
Many thanks fellow doodle lovers....

Rose and Izzy

Hi. We give them to Coco (8 months) raw straight from the freezer. She was a bit suspicious of the first one but she loves them now :D

Thanks both, i will try her with them tomorrow. She has kinda gone off her regular dog food, just sniffs and walks away sometimes, as if to say im not eating THAT. So hoping she will like the raw frozen chicken better.

I admire your resolve in not caving in and giving Izzy a wing before you froze them!
In this house, doodles appear from no where with the biggest , soulful pleading eyes... i always crumble and offer one.
I tell myself it is almost their dinner time.

:?: Are we allowed to feed our dogs chicken wings??? Please can someone advise about feeding them to a 7 month old puppy, i.e. how many cooked or not? Does the splintering thing not apply with chicken wings?

Definitely NOT cooked. Raw chicken wings either fresh or frozen are fine. We started giving frozen, raw chicken wings to Coco from the age of 7 months. She only has 2 - 3 a week and we have never had any problems with an upset tummy etc.

Barney had them at 6 months (if not 5 but I can't remember). They don't splinter - the bones crunch and crumble to nothing because they're hard. When they're cooked they "shatter" and splinter. Barney loves them!

Same with Freddie. He has one as a 'starter' every day and he loves it. I'm sure it is good for his teeth.

I haven't given Alfie a chicken wing yet as I'm a wussy!!!

I look at them when I am about to put a chicken in the oven but the fear of him choking stops me from giving him one! Will he really just crunch the bones up with no problems?

Alfie would love one I'm sure, so I will have to try and overcome my fear!!!

Buddy is nearly 3 and I've only just got brave enough to give him raw bone this week  haha

If you are a bit worried and paranoid chicken wings are good to start on as the bones are easy to crunch up and it will literally just slide down the dogs throat after a bit of crunching :)

Cooked bones are the big no no!!! This is where the horror stories of choking, blockages etc comes from...cooked bones can be dangerous.

However raw (fresh or frozen) bones are great for a treat! :D

If you would like to feed a raw diet instead of a complete kibble then there is a bit more to it than just chucking them a chicken wing...they must have certain percentages of meat, bone and offal for it to be a healthy balanced diet. But I'm sure somebody experienced in BARF diet can give you more info :)

Good luck guys...be brave ;) Buddy loves his! We will be building up to lamb legs and beef bones soon!! :P
