S & W Yorks Doodle Meet - Pugneys, Sun 6 Mar 2016

Post by Ianto! » 28 Feb 2016, 20:52

The lovely South and West Yorkshire Doodle Meet group are having another get together on Sunday, 6th March 2016 at Pugneys Country Park, on the outskirts of Wakefield.

Everyone begins to congregate on the grass in front of the car park from 10 am, ready to start off at 10.30 am. There is a small charge for parking, and there is a café with toilet facilities next door to the car park. The doods (and their hooms) walk around the huge lake, with ample opportunities for a quick dip at several locations... (believe me, we have witnessed hooms skinny-dipping - although admittedly, it was high Summer! ) There is an artificial beach at the far end of the lake, where they can either leap in after their floats/ball/other peoples' equipment... or run like lunatics after the gulls and crows on the massive playing field...

There is a warm 'shower' (hosepipe) at the end of the walk, small charge of 50p with ample water to shampoo and rinse your dood - and given the mud, they'll need it!. If you are staying on for coffee and food you would be advised to bring along a towel, wrap or fleece for your dood. Several members are excellent bakers and there is often a selection of hoom and doodle 'treats' - otherwise, the café serves hot food, snacks and meals (although they have to be consumed outside...) If you are 'flying solo' someone will either volunteer to hold your dood, or fetch you a hot drink out - don't be afraid to ask :D

On-going roadworks around Jct39 mean that you need to factor in a little extra time for travel, but they have been reduced around Jct29 recently, so I'm not moaning as much as usual...!
If using SatNav, you are better looking for the Swan & Cygnet pub, as the postcode for Pugneys isn't correct - it takes you to a supermarket carpark :(

From the motorway, come off at Jct 39, then follow the signs for Wakefield. There are two smaller roundabouts, and Pugneys is just off the second one (slightly set back so watch out for it!)

We aren't able to get to this one, but if you are a newbie, just introduce yourself to one of the regulars and they'll look after you...

Any queries, ask away -
Anne, Ianto & Wyre x
